Former Blue Jays manager, John Gibbons, joins Mal and Griff on Exit Philosophy, doing a deep dive into his personal history as a two-time Jays manager, his warm feelings for Toronto and the fans, his thought on the ‘24 World Series and what it takes to win in the post-season. Gibby discusses his thoughts on Jose Bautista, Josh Donaldson and the importance of leadership inside the clubhouse. He speaks of his relationships with the three GMs with whom he worked. He was back in uniform for the first time since 2018, giving up his own podcast as a media member, moving on as bench coach for the Mets and their rookie manager Carlos Mendoza and his admiration for shortstop Francisco Lindor. Did the time off between Gibby’s two stints as Jays manager change him for the better, allowing him to gain perspective? Gibby reveals that he, in fact, did interview for the White Sox job last week and that if he is ever going to manage again, he knows he’s not getting any younger.

Really enjoyed this. Gibby is just such a likeable person, seemingly without ego, and a decent human being. His relationship with the media in particular seemed unusual. I remember Rosie getting teary at his final post-game interview and even Cathal Kelly had something nice to say about him!
