The Johnny Mac Father's Day home run
Courtesy of Toronto Star, one of most emotional baseball moments I've witnessed
Happy Father’s Day. Here is the column I wrote for the Toronto Star, on Father’s Day, 2010. Earlier in the day, utility infielder John McDonald had kept a promise that he made to his dad, continuing a tradition of meeting with Jays fans prior to the game on Father’s Day. His dad had passed away five days earlier, yet he kept his speaking engagement. This is the story of what happened later in the game, as coming off the bench, Johnny Mac homered. Here we recall the emotion of the moment .
