The Blue Jays Stagger into October
A five-game Jays lead turns into frustrating battle to keep pace with Yankees
The playoff-bound Blue Jays were once riding high atop the AL East, but a punchless 10-day spiral, prior to Thursday’s necessary 6-1 win over the Red Sox, produced a combination of visible frustration, panic, tough calls and poor internal decisions, that now sees the Local 9 tied with the confident Yankees heading to the final weekend of games. There have been strange decisions on and off the field, like Berrios to the bullpen then to the IL, Bieber pushed back a day, Bassitt to the IL, a metamorphosized Manoah cut loose, DFA’d after working his ass off for 14 months of intense rehab from elbow surgery, multiple Jays ejections, TV cameras giving gloomy dugout views, umpire blaming, conspiracy theories and more. The final out of the Wednesday night loss to Boston seemed typical, with Alejandro Kirk being thrown out at first base from right field on a 104.1 mph one-hopper to Wilyer Abreu. Griff and Mal talk about all the front office’s strange roster decisions, the disappearing offence, new ABS Challenge System for 2026. They pay tribute to Kershaw (Dodgers) and Arenado (Cardinals), recall MLB’s most historic collapses and more. As well, the boys try to bounce back for the sake of our betting friends with this week’s NFL Picks.
