List of former Blue Jays organization players on 40-man rosters elsewhere in MLB
Total of 51 ex-Blue Jays from Ross Atkins era now on other MLB 40-man rosters
As the Blue Jays front office continues to scour the landscape for help that will bring the team back to playoff contention, via trade or free-agency, there are surely a few names out there, players that were once Jays, with which they might wish for do-overs. But with six weeks remaining before pitchers and catchers report to training camp at the palatial Player Development Complex in Dunedin, we can note that there are currently 51 players from GM Ross Atkins’ tenure (2016-24) who are now listed on other MLB teams’ 40-man rosters. Here is what potential all-star team of those ex- Jays might look like, culled from the 29 MLB protected lists, as of Jan. 11.
CATCHER (5): Riley Adams (Wsh); Tyler Heineman (NYM); Luke Maile (Cin); Reese McGuire (Bos) and Gabby Moreno (AZ).
The pair of opening day catchers from that ex-Jays group would likely include Moreno and McGuire. The Jays, controversially, included their top prospect, Moreno, in the much-scrutinized deal with the Diamondbacks, ahead of the 2023 season, for left fielder Daulton Varsho. They went to the World Series, aided by Moreno and Lourdes Gurriel Jr., also in the deal. The other guy, McGuire was plucked from the Jays by the Red Sox from the Dollar Tree bargain-bin and could act as a lefthanded hitting complement to Moreno.
