An eventful seven days sees an organization on the cusp
1-Vlad Guerrero Jr (the good): It’s impossible to compile any list of good, bad or ugly for anything to do with this franchise without understanding that Vlad Jr. is, likely, going to lead the way, sometimes in all three Sergio Leone categories at the same time.
The “good” has to begin with Vlad’s winning performance in the Home Run Derby. The forever-entertaining, Montreal-born, Dominican-raised, man-of-the-world, captured the Monday-night MLB showcase with head-to-head victories over Mookie Betts (26HR), Julio Rodriguez (21HR-WO) and Randy Arozarena (25HR).
It was Junior’s second attempt at the Derby, after slamming a record 91 homers in 2019 at Cleveland, but losing the final to the Mets’ Pete Alonso. Vlad Jr. joined his father as the only father-son combo to win the Derby under any format, with Vlad Sr. capturing the title in 2007.
