Blue Jays shed salary in eight trades

Scotty Mac and I appeared live on our Exit Philosophy YouTube channel on Tuesday night, with a special edition, just two hours after the MLB trade deadline and an hour after Blue Jays GM Ross Atkins effected a Zoom call to explain his eight trades to media that returned a much-needed influx of prospects.

By trading all six pending free agents, plus Isiah Kiner-Falefa, the Jays, importantly, did manage to reduce team payroll to just under the threshold for paying a luxury tax. They plan on re-investing that money into payroll again in 2025. GM Atkins said there was never a question of trading Bo Bichette or Vlad Guerrero. Jr., also, that they are going to try and be contenders in 2025 and 2026 and finally he apologized to fans.
