On the occasion of Buck Martinez Day at Rogers Centre we revisit our conversation with the iconic Blue Jays catcher/manager/broadcaster
I got up at 4 am today (down here) to watch the ceremony for Buck, which was excellent. Very emotional, but good emotions! Sports announcers make and leave such an indelible impression and it's bittersweet when you know you won't hear those comforting voices again. But Buck just seems like such a good person all round. I think we all miss him.
Two random questions for you: i) do you think it was disrespectful for some of the Mariners players to start warming up before the ceremony was over?; and ii) is there any friction between Roy Halladay's family and the team? Lots of perfectly good reasons why they couldn't be there of course. I know he retired as a Jay. But I do seem to recall some sort of friction at the time of his HOF entry?
