Nice summary Richard. I think the narrative around the team was probably about the same last year - at least in terms of the offence. But I agree, I just don't understand why we are not great at the fundamentals. It's frustrating and we are not a particularly exciting team to watch on the bases either as stolen bases never seem to be part of our game. I don't follow analytics much, but apparently Gimenez does not grade out well at shortstop. Not sure why that is the case. Wonder if they should put him back to 2B and have Ernie at short?
Hey Rob, I am not big on fielding analytics, as you may know. However I am a big fan of speed, aggressiveness and the stolen base and I do miss all of that. Barger is 1-for-23 but he needs to play every day. We will see if it all works out.
For my own edification, I'd like some clarity about the Bo Bichette situation. My understanding is that he wanted to stay with Jays, but they never made him a serious offer, especially after signing Vladdy to a long-term deal. But you're suggesting that he wanted to leave. Was that always the case, or was it more because Bo didn't feel they were seriously committed to him? At this moment, I'm viewing Bichette to the Mets as a Jays front-office screwup. Am I wrong?
It’s an interesting situation, but when Bo signed a 3-year deal that took him to his free agency, the belief here is that they were trying for a multi-year deal that would buy out several years of free agency. When that didn’t happen, both sides realized that something dramatic would have to happen for Bo to stay. So the die was cast well before last winter.

Barger has just shown that good, exciting defence is bad for the health.
