Blue Jays Season ends in celebration of Mad Max and Springer while deflecting from sub-.500 and Vlad’s pretzel logic

Talent is there for a quick ‘27 turnaround but power and leadership search begins

The Toronto Blue Jays’ 2026 season is officially over, and the finale at Rogers Centre was filled with emotion, controversy and plenty of baseball and non-baseball topics for Mal and me to discuss and debate on Exit Philosophy.

Max Scherzer and George Springer received well-deserved emotional farewell tributes in front of an appreciative sellout Blue Jays crowd as Toronto closed out a disappointing 2026 season. But did the focus on two departing stars overshadow the bigger story of an 80-82, sub-.500 finish?

Then there’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and his controversial Spanish-language interview in Baltimore. What happened, how did the comments become such a major story, and what can the Blue Jays and Vlad learn from the situation going forward? Was there nobody around that cared enough for Vlad to see that he was spiralling towards this ridiculous and misguided take. It was in his first language and he didn’t deny any of it, simply doubling down in Baltimore and then apologizing when he got home prior to Game 1 of the Reds series..

With Toronto’s season over, Exit Philosophy also previews all four 2026 MLB Wild Card Series and examines the teams that were the biggest disappointments around Major League Baseball.

Plus, there’s takes on Blue Jays offseason questions to get back to post-season relevance, MLB playoff and non-playoff discussion and more.
