I’m pretty sure that the organization will get around to honouring Jerry Howarth before too long. I compare it to The thinking that Jerry is to Tom Cheek what Duane Ward was to Tom Henke. All excellent but two in the shadow of the best. I would like to believe there is no blacklist.
I'm with you on your belief about Jerry Howarth, vis-a-vis the Blue Jays, Richard. It's just that the organization has virtually ignored the quality of their radio game broadcasts since he retired, that makes me wonder sometimes. Thanks for the response, Richard.
That was a fantastic ceremony for a true icon of the team. I've seen some narrative (mostly by commenters on the Athletic) from those who didn't think Buck warranted the attention and accolades. Ridiculous. They completely missed the point. I was teary during most of the ceremony. Seeing Pat Gillick in a wheelchair hit me hard as well. It did bother me that the Mariners came out and started warming up while Buck was talking. I think karma came back to bite them for that!
Those critics clearly didn’t know the man personally and have not been able to gauge the impact Buck Martinez has had on fans across the country and around the rest of MLB as well.
