Top of Jays slumping batting order shows signs of life in time for home opener
JAYS DROP A PAIR IN BRONX AFTER SPOILING YANKEES HOME OPENER
The Jays would have needed to take two of three games in the Bronx on the weekend to return home with a .500 record from the opening trip. It would have been enough to label the three-city road adventure a success. But, after defeating the Bombers in the traditional home opener, 3-0, behind LHP Yusei Kikuchi and an efficient bullpen, the Jays dropped the final two games of the series, 9-8 and 6-3. In that pair of losses, the revamped heart of the Yankee order showed what it could be at its intimidating best. Consider the 2-5 hitters in the Yankees order – RF Juan Soto, CF Aaron Judge, 1B Anthony Rizzo and DH Giancarlo Stanton – combined for a two-game stat-line, 11-for-27-.407, with five homers, seven walks, a HP, a sac-fly, for an OPS of 1.506.
